AtoB Back and Forth Review: Watchmen

I'm teaming up with longtime friend, Reed of Fighting The Youth to review films. We're calling the segment "A to B" because I'm Brad and he's Andrew. And I live in Amsterdam, and he lives in Buenos Aires. We generally won't get the new releases when the States do, but hopefully we can either help you reminisce or head out to the video store.

Andrew Bird @ Paradiso

Thursday May 7, 2009

Last week I caught Andrew Bird on the European leg of his Altered Beast tour at the Paradiso in Amsterdam.

Playing with a full band, Bird reinvented nearly every one his songs for his live show. This created a mood of familiarity, with the excitement of not knowing what would come come next. Proving he can pick-up the pace and be charismatic and energetic the band sounded louder and more convincing than the studio releases.

If you unfamiliar with Andrew Bird's music I recommend that you check out his myspace page for some free musical samples and that you download Armchair Apocrypha.

Here are two live clips from the Amsterdam show I took with my camera. The quality is not great, but it will give you a decent preview of a Bird show.

Sailing the Amsterdam Canal's - Woof! Woof!

Ahoy! This entry is a bit windy, but with a day as beautiful as this in Amsterdam a new video blog entry was a must. Sailing the Dutch canal's with Captain Pap is a fantastic way to get a new vantage point of the city. Come along for the ride, but bring your do collar ... :-)

Migal Musings

Natalia and Bart have been busy finding funny and entertaining web content. I want to share two of my favorites from this week.

Do-Ra-Mi from Antwerp Train Station
I have been to this beautiful train station. Unfortunately there were no shenanigans like this going on when I passed through on the way to Brugge. Youtube Video.

Do-Ra-Dumb from Costa Rica Rain Forest
Gorilla's in the Mist? Will Blago really stand a chance in the rain forest? Will Illinois judges really let him go? MSNBC Article.

Virgin Ski Run

Winterberg, Germany
February 14/15, 2009

Last weekend I went skiing for the 1st time ever! After four weeks of training at Snow Planet, the indoor Dutch skiing facility, I was ready for the adventure of a real slope.

But was my hair?
Note - no product was added for this photo. This is real ski hair!

Natalia and I had a great time and although these slopes were really more hill than mountain, they proved plenty challenging for me. By the end of the weekend I had my ski legs and found my desire to keep on improving. Next time the Alps!!
